Dr. Nikolay Mehandjiev

Dr. Nikolay Mehandjiev is the Vice-Provost (Research) at the University of Birmingham, Dubai Campus, where he leads the development of the campus’s research and engagement strategy.

With over two decades of experience in digital innovation, enterprise systems, and applied AI, his work bridges academia and industry to advance intelligent, user-centric enterprise technologies.

Previously, Dr. Mehandjiev was Professor of Enterprise Information Systems at the University of Manchester, where he taught and researched the transformative role of digital technology and big data in manufacturing and process industries.

He has authored over 150 peer-reviewed publications, edited multiple international journal issues, and participated in 25 collaborative research projects worth over €57 million, involving global organizations such as Airbus, SAP, Comau, MAN, BT, Atos, Philips, DHL, Hanomag, and Magna InTier.

Dr. Mehandjiev has also held visiting appointments with SAP Research Labs (Germany), Tongji University (China), Atos Origin SAE (Spain), BT Research (UK), and UNSW (Australia), and has supervised 15 PhD graduates.

He regularly serves as an international expert reviewer for the European Commission and national research councils in Belgium, Poland, Russia, and Kazakhstan.
